The perfect setting is not always easy.  Alaska is full of spectacular places to shoot.  Still, with so many amazing settings, it is not always easy to get there when the conditions are just right for photos.    This past week, I decided I was tired of waiting for perfect conditions.  I had been very sick for a week or so and was going a little stir crazy in the house.  I convinced the kids to get dressed up and head out to this fun location with me.  Unfortunately, Daddy didn't get off work until much later than normal and conditions were not great by the time we finally got out there.

I love the rustic architectural look of this old bridge.  I like to mix dressier clothes with a rustic setting.  The kids were all dressed up and excited about going, but it was getting darker and darker in such a hurry while we were headed over there.  The temperature was dropping and the rain started to blow sideways.  I was not too confident that we would get any good photos.  This photo was taken with the strongest flash I had brought along and it was still terribly dark.

I was determined to try though.  I adjusted the settings on my camera and got a few good shots with my zoom lens:  I was amazed at how well they turned out considering there was nearly no light when we were shooting.

The best shots were taken with the 50mm lens.  I love how great it performs in very low light situations.

I am looking forward to doing a few more shoots at this fun location - good weather and lighting conditions or not.
